MR. LUIS CASTANEDA
Mr. Castaneda has been training horses since 1989 and has ridden many Peruvian Paso horses to the ribbons, championships and Champion of Champion. He has shown his protégé in halter, bozal and in bit in numerous California locations: Santa Rosa, Monterey, Sacramento and Los Angeles to name a few. The list of his successful show horses is lengthy but a few are: Merengue JC, Manuela JC, Samba JC, Gloriosa JC, Macarena JC, Cumbia AAG, Sofia JC, and more…
Luis learned his skills from his father, Jorge Castaneda, a recognized breeder and trainer of Peruvian Paso horses who himself is descended from generations of Chalans and who received a Certificate of Honor from Peru as the “King of Halter Horses
Over the years, Mr. Castaneda has developed his own style and philosophy of training which has proven highly successful, not only with Peruvian Paso horses but also with other breeds. The multi-talented Luis works with Mules, Quarter Horses and other gaited breeds and has a special skill with young horses. Those colts and fillies lucky enough to be “started” by Luis, who does not believe in pushing horses past their own individual physical and mental capabilities, tend to develop into their own potential with a happy attitude and a willingness to work. Not everyone can be a star in the show ring, of course, and Mr. Castaneda will be the first to advise the owner if the trail is the best place for your horse.
There are numerous veterinarians in the areas where Luis has trained who have great admiration for his skill in working with injured or infirm horses. Dr. Dina Allison of Dixon was overheard telling an owner that: “Without Mr. Castaneda’s diligent and skilled care, this horse would not have been rehabilitated so successfully”, and Dr. Linda Lauper of Lodi praised Luis for his intuitive farrier skills in the healing of an injured hoof.
Owners who put their horses in Mr. Castaneda’s care usually stay with him, or come back for a periodic “tune-up”, knowing that their horses are in good hands.
